We’re Don and Heather! Educators, adventurers, and your guides to the incredible landscapes of Southern Utah. Our story together started in a classroom, but our passion for guiding people through unforgettable experiences began long before that.

From 2007 to 2019, we spent our summers working as tour guides in Alaska, sharing glaciers, wildlife, and wilderness with visitors from around the world. These days, Don continues that tradition as an Expedition Leader for National Geographic during the summer months, leading travelers through some of the most remote and inspiring parts of the planet.

When we’re not working or guiding, you’ll usually find us planning our next adventure. We've explored Europe, Mexico, Canada, Argentina, and Hawaii. After spending so many summers in Alaska, it’s practically our second home. Whether we're exploring rugged landscapes or sharing meals in faraway places, travel has always been how we reconnect with each other, with nature, and with the joy of discovery.

Southern Utah is where our love for the outdoors first began. We both grew up exploring these red rock canyons and national parks with our families, and that early sense of wonder has never left us.

Don taught high school biology for five years and is now a high school principal. Heather has spent the last 15 years as an elementary school teacher. Education has shaped the way we guide—patient, engaging, and always focused on helping people connect with the world around them.

We started Spirit of Adventure Tours to bring that same sense of discovery to our own backyard. Every tour we offer is private and personal, tailored to your pace and your sense of adventure. Whether you want to hike, ride, learn, or simply take in the views, we’re here to help you experience the magic of this place the way we do—like locals who never stopped being amazed by it.
